SIZILIEN RUNDREISE | San Vito lo Capo – Cefalù – Noto

Ein Road Trip impliziert das ständige Abschiednehmen von Orten, die man zum Teil liebgewonnen hat. Aber das gehört nun einmal zum Leben wie auch zur Rundreise dazu. Ansonsten würde man sich der Chance berauben, Neues kennenzulernen. Und eben das wollten wir ja auf Sizilien. Daher suchten wir unsere Touren immer so aus, dass wir Neues entdecken konnten. Und da wir das Auto den Tag darauf in Catania abgeben mussten, führte uns unsere Reiseroute an der Nordküste entlang nach Cefalù. Insofern nahmen wir Abschied von den –> Malediven Italiens, was uns bei dem Sonnenuntergang wirklich schwer fiel.

Unsere Unterkunft in Cefalù

In etwa 2 km Entfernung zur Küstenstadt hatten wir ganz spontan im B&B Mare Blu ein Doppelzimmer gebucht. Die Unterkunft hatte ihren ganz eigenen Charme. Ein wenig rustikal eingerichtet, aber mit fantastischer Aussicht auf das Meer. Positiver Begleiteffekt war das köstliche Frühstück. Insbesondere freute uns dabei, dass wir zusätzlich zum Frühstücksbuffet ganz individuell bestellen konnten. Bevor es weiter nach Catania ging, wollten wir uns unbedingt noch Cefalù ansehen. Denn ich hatte schon soviel Positives darüber von Touristen wie auch Einheimischen gehört. Und soviel sei vorab verraten, es hatte uns so gut gefallen, dass wir überlegten, den Rest unserer Zeit hier zu verbringen.

Warum Cefalù zu den schönsten Städten Siziliens gehört

Denn Cefalù hat eine ganz besondere Kombination aus Sandstrand und mittelalterlichen Gassen. Darüber hinaus gilt Cefalù als Hauptstadt der Gebirgskette Madonien, einem der größten Naturschutzgebiete des Mittelmeeres. Die Küstenstadt vereint also beides – Berge und Meer! Nicht zu vergessen das Dolce Vita an jeder Ecke!!

Angesichts des kleinen Zeitfensters beschränkte sich unser Programm auf nur wenige Unternehmungen. Zunächst spazierten wir am Strand der Altstadt. Der lange Sandstrand hat schon vor 1000 Jahren die normannischen Eroberer Siziliens angezogen. Denn hier richteten sie zunächst ihre Hauptstadt ein. Gefolgt von Flanieren in der Altstadt, Fotos machen, einigen Snacks zwischendurch und der Besichtigung der normannischen Kathedrale.

Die Highlights & unsere weitere Reiseroute

Bei letzterer handelt es sich um ein festungsähnliches Bauwerk aus dem 12. Jahrhundert mit aufwändigen byzantinischen Mosaiken und imposanten Zwillingstürmen. Zuletzt sei noch der Besuch des Burgfels Rocca erwähnt. Der Namensgeber der Stadt hat die Form eines Kopfes (gr. Kephalos Haupt) und ist wunderbar geeignet zum Verweilen.

Tags darauf hieß es nach dem köstlichen Frühstück wieder Abschiednehmen. Zunächst tauschten wir den Mietwagen und im Anschluß machten wir uns auf ins Val di Noto. Diese Gegend ist so schön, dass sie ihren eigenen Beitrag verdient hat! Natürlich nehme ich Euch mit! 🙂

Roadtrip from San Vito lo Capo to Cefalù

A road trip implies the permanent farewell of places that one has partly loved. But that’s part of life as well as of a round trip. Otherwise you wouldn’t have the chance to get to know new things. And that’s exactly what we wanted to discover – as many new places as possible in Sicily. Therefore, we always chose our tours so that we could discover something new. And since we had to leave the car in Catania the next day, our route took us along the north coast to Cefalù. In this respect we said goodbye to the –> Maledives of Italy, which was really hard for us regarding the sunset.

Our accomodation in Cefalù

In about 2 km distance to the coastal town we spontaneously booked a double room in the B & B Mare Blu. The accommodation had its own charm. A little rustically furnished, but with a fantastic view on the sea. Positive accompanying effect was the delicious breakfast. In particular, we were pleased that we were able to order individually in addition to the breakfast buffet. Before heading for Catania we wanted to visit Cefalù. Because I had already heard so much positive things about it from tourists as well as locals. To put it in a nutshell: we had liked it so much that we considered spending the rest of our time here.

Why Cefalù is one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily

The reason is that Cefalù has a very special combination of sandy beach and medieval streets. In addition, Cefalù is considered the capital of the mountain range Madonie, one of the largest nature reserves in the Mediterranean. The coastal city combines both – mountains and sea! Not to forget the Dolce Vita at every corner! Given the small time window, our program was limited to only a few activities. First we walked at the beach of the old town. The long sandy beach already attracted the Norman conquerors of Sicily 1000 years ago. Might be a reason why they first set up their capital here. Followed by a stroll in the old town, taking pictures, some snacks in between and a visit to the Norman cathedral.

Highlights of Cefalù and our further travel route

The latter is a 12th-century fortress-like structure with Byzantine mosaics and imposing twin towers. Finally, the visit of the Rocca is worth to be mentioned. The namesake of the city has the shape of a head (gr. Kephalos main) and is wonderfully suitable for staying.

The next day after a delicious breakfast we had to say goodbye to Cefalù. First, we exchanged the rental car and afterwards we made our way to Val di Noto. This area is so beautiful that it deserves its own article! Of course I’ll take you with me! 🙂
